Long weekend ahead!
With Ascension Day being a public holiday and people often taking the Friday off, many Germans are looking forward to a long weekend.
The Christian holiday Ascension Day has been a public holiday in Germany since 1936. Known as „Herrentag“ in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it became the day of fathers or men in general. Therefore men can often be seen on a tour: on foot pulling a hand cart full of provisions (mainly of the liquid kind) or by bike in the nature combined with a huge BBQ afterwards. The “Gerstensaft” (beer) is an essential attendant on this day. So besides at a picnic in the open air you might want to know where to meet all the “Herren” this Thursday.
The BIGGEST FATHERS DAY PARTY for the whole family can be found at Satow from 10 am on. See the most creative vehicle or challenge yourself to a round of bull-riding. There will also be entertainment for kids and live-music. The entry is for free.
More hungry than thirsty? Eat very tasty wild boar at the LT-Club and enjoy an erotic-exotic fashion show. Once again this begins at 10 am. At 10 pm starts another round of disco partying. The entry is for free.
So celebrate German Fathers‘ Day!
Friday and Saturday | June 3rd and 4th | Rostock Universitätsplatz
You like to watch people dancing? Come to the Universitätsplatz and enjoy “Rostock tanzt!” (“Rostock is dancing!”) Rostock’s dancing schools offer you a glimpse of their programme from 11 am to 7 pm.
There will be different styles from ballroom dancing to ballet, hip hop to modern dance or tap dance to folk dance – everyone finds something they enjoy! The performances are also done by different age groups, so you can see everything from cute little boys and girls to the more grown-up and advanced dancers.
Put on your dancing shoes and join the fun! (or tap along with the rhythm at least)
Saturday | June 4th | Theater des Friedens
If you have recovered from “Herrentag” and are up for more partying, you might want to go to the “Theater des Friedens” (literally: “theatre of peace”) before it closes for its yearly summer break. Themed “Nacht der Engel – Frieden Closing Party” (“night of angels”) the “Theater des Friedens” will be anything but peaceful this weekend.
The club used to be a nostalgic cinema, but was redesigned and is now used for partying, dancing, drinking and flirting every Saturday night.
The party starts at 11 pm on Saturday June 4th. Tickets can be bought for 5 Euro at the “Pressezentrum” or bought & printed online on the “Theater des Friedens” homepage.
Get out your white clothes and send the “Theater des Friedens” into summer break with a night of partying!
